Ponting Set for Surrey

Surrey have signed former Australia Captain Ricky Ponting on a two month deal

Ponting played his last test for Australia in december las year and has scored 27, 483 runs for his contry across all formats, notching up 71 centuries in a golden era of Australian cricket.

In his most recent appearance for Tasmania, he hit an unbeaten 200 and is also due to represent the Mubain Indians in the upcoming IPL. Speaking this week Ponting said I am really excited to be playing for Surrey this season. They are a forward thinking and historic club and play at one of the greatest gounds in the world. it has not been the friendliest place for me but now it will be my home for two months this summer. I dont like to think i can contribute a significant amount to the club on and off the field and am looking forward to getting stuck in as soon as I arrive.

 Surrey team director Chris Adams added we knew we would lose Graeme to the ICC Champions Trophy in June. THat given we focused on recruting the best possible replacement and in Ricky Ponting, we have signed one of the greatest batsmen of the modern era.

Mumbai Indian New Captain Ricky Ponting

Mumbai Indians have appointed former Australia captain Ricky Ponting as their captain for the sixth ediition of IPL, which starts from 3rd, April 2013. Ponting, who retired from international cricket at the end of 2012 was bought at the base price of $400,000 during the player auction earlier this month.

When Enamul Haque was run out by Darren Stevens in the 17th over, it ended a campaign in which they were favourites from start to finish. During the kings chase of 173 Mosharraf too three crucial wickets in the middle to trigger a collapse and for this he was the man of the match. the left arm spinner broke the promising 25 run second wicket partnership between Nurul Hasan and Jason Roy. Nurul holed out to long off before Saqlain Sajib took the wicket of Ravi Bopara a batsman not in the best of form. Mosharraf than took the key wicket of Ryan ten Doeschate, caught at point  by Tillakarntne Dilshan for just 2 a ball later he bowled Rov to leave the kings struggling at 65 for 5 in the ninth over. Roy had made 40 off

28 balls with six boundaries, but his dismissal took the sting out of the kings chase. from 50 for 1 the powerplay they were reduced to 70 for 5 at the end of ten overs.

kings captain Mahmudullah was their last hope but he fell in the 17th over. Saqlain took an impressive diving catch at short third man to dismiss the allrounder who scored 44 off 28 balls with three sixes and three fours.

 

Shahid Khan Afridi is Recall for T20 & ODI against South Africa

Former Pakistan Captain Shahid Afridi is likely to be recalled to the one day squard for the forthcoming series against South Africa. Sources close to the national selection committee said that Afridi who was dropped for the one-day series in India after playing in just two T20 mates would be picked for the entire limited over series in south africa.

SOuth Africa Vs Pakistan 2nd Test

South Africa take an unassailable 2-0 series lead with one to play. They were pushed close in this Test but showed the character to bounce back after struggling in the first innings. Peterson's knock helped get them close to Pakistan's score, but the visitors couldn't capitalise as well as they would have liked. There was a turnaround today when the ball was changed after the first drinks break, triggering off a collapse. From then on it was all South Africa.

New Zealand drew firlst blood in the three match one-day series against England. Wining the opener by three wickets in Hamilton.

 

The match teeterd one way and then the other as the Balck Caps looked to chase down 259 for victory after England were bowled out in the final over of their inings.

 

 

But the return of Martin Gaptil 27 not out who had retired with a damaged hamstring after six overs, turned the course of the match as he joing Brendon Mccullum 69 to see hi side home with sven balls left.

 

 

 

Premier League Chelsea Too Good For Brentford in FA CUP

Brentford proved difficult to break down in the opening 45 minutes but Chelsea improved beyound recognition after the interval as goals from Juan Mata, Oscar, Frank Lamard and John Terry Extinguished the league One side's hopes of pulling off the unlikeliest of scalps.
