Australian Warner dropped over behaviour breach

LONDON:  Australia batsman David Warner has been dropped from the team's Champions Trophy match against New Zealand for an alleged physical altercation with an England player, Cricket Australia said on Wednesday.

The flamboyant left-hander, who was primed to open the batting for Australia in back-to-back Ashes series against England starting in July, has been reported for breaching the code of behaviour.

"Warner... was allegedly involved in (an incident) with an England player in the early hours of Sunday morning following the ICC Champions Trophy match between the teams in Birmingham," the governing body said in a statement.

"Team management have stood down Warner pending the outcome of the hearing, meaning he will miss Australia's match against New Zealand in Birmingham tonight (on Wednesday)."

CA said it would make no further comments until the hearing, the time and date for which was yet to be confirmed.

The 26-year-old opener was also fined A$5,750 ($5,400) last month by Cricket Australia (CA) for a Twitter outburst against two journalists.

Australia lost Saturday's opening match against England by 48 runs and are already without regular captain Michael Clarke, who has not recovered from a back injury, for Wednesday's crucial group match against their trans-Tasman rivals.

Sreesanth Ankeet Chavan and Ajit Chandila Arrested Spot Fixing in IPL

Rajasthan Royals Players S Sreesanth, Ankeet Chavan and Ajit Chandila have been arrested by the Delhi Police Special Cell on charges of spot-fixing In IPL.

Sreesanth and the others, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan, were arrested in a secret swoop at the Trident Hotel in Mumbai, where they were staying, and will be brought to Delhi to be produced in court.

Sources said that the police were waiting for hard-core evidence against the players although they had two earlier opportunities to arrest the accused but let go of them even though they had prima facie proof of spot fixing. Finally the arrests happened on late Wednesday night at hotel Trident in Mumbai.

The cops have recovered money and proof of the transaction between players and bookies. According to PTI The police had arrested seven bookies in Mumbai and three in Delhi in connection with the same case. They are looking for two more in Delhi.

“We have been informed that three of our players have been called in for investigation on spot-fixing in matches. We are completely taken by surprise.

We are in touch with the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) on this matter. We will fully cooperate with the authorities to ensure a thorough investigation.

The management at Rajasthan Royals has a zero-tolerance approach to anything that is against the spirit of the game.”
